I love the vibrancy and eccentricity (Is that a word?) of the Kandinsky. It is definitely something that (if I had my own living room) I would hang above the fireplace. The Monet is very peaceful but a little too serene for me.
I like what Chelsie said about apples and oranges, but personally I prefer bananas. As a lover of art, neither touches my preferences. I think the Monet communicates less than the Kandinsky, but is probably more comprehendable to the average onlooker.
If the artist's sole point is to communicate a clear and comprehndable message than I'm afraid many incredible artists have failed. Which "road" did Frost mean in his "road less taken," or is the Mona Lisa happy, sad, plaintive?
Art is supposed to mean something different to each individual because we are all different. Art communicates whatever message you want to receive, because art isn't about the message, it is about the expression.

Apples and oranges- they're both intriguing. I like the passion in the Kandinsky, but I also like the serenity in the Monet.

Is it important for an artist to be comprehendable or should he try to have people understand his point of view
I'm personally a fan of the Kandinsky because the Monet is barely attempting to communicate anything besides serenity.
I'm not all about abstraction, so if I had to choose, I'd pic the serene one.
the artist determines the point of view but to an extent, art needs to be comprehendable or the artist has failed to reach his audience.

The Kadinsky. It makes you look for something in it. The Monet is simply there.
