Well... according to "Wikipedia" the definition of realism is...Realism in the visual arts and literature is the depiction of subjects as they appear in everyday life, without embellishment or interpretation. The term is also used to describe works of art which, in revealing a truth, may emphasize the ugly or sordid. It represents the opposite of idealism.
Soo... what do you mean by the "mask of reality"? Is reality only our perception?
you have to figure out whether reality is what you see or if reality is something that overarches visible/tactile/sensual feedback. But I don't know, I want your opinions
I guess when I think of realism I think that it is something that is depicted in the artist's perception. Or whomever is doing the "depicting"! When we see it... as viewers from the outside it might be something that "overarches visible/tactile/sensual feedback."
Are we talking about perception (what we as individuals draw from something) or are we talking about the form of art "Realism"??
I don't know if I am making any sense. It is too late for me to be thinking. :)

realism is more accurate but creative expression is fun and can be accurate.
does realism depict reality or does it depict the mask of reality?

Since when can anything be accurately represented?
